Why is it Essential to Replenish?
Even before you were born you were bombarded by pollutants. They're colorless, odorless and tasteless. You breathe them in as you walk around your house, consume them through fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, and ingest them in each cool refreshing glass of water. They're under your sink, in your vanity and are wreaking havoc on your health.
But this is only part of the problem. Let's face it; we don't always eat right. And some days it's easier to “run to the border” than it is to take the time to prepare a nutritious meal. The bigger issue is that even when we do everything we can to eat right, we can't be assured we're giving our body the nutrients it needs to function properly and keep illness, infection and premature aging at bay.
Consider this:
- The Journal of the American Medical Association recommends that every American take a daily multi-nutrient supplement to address the health dilemma of nutritionally poor diets.
- Ninety-five percent of our body's functions require minerals (as least 60) to help keep illness and disease at bay. Unfortunately, only 8 minerals are available (in any kind of quantity) in most of the food we eat today.
- More than 75% of Americans do not eat the daily recommended minimum amount of fruits and vegetables (five servings or more). (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
- Depleted soils, pesticides and refining processes lower nutrient content in fresh fruits and vegetables. (Nutritional Wellness)
- The most nutritious parts of foods are often stripped away when we cut off the stalks, peel off the skin or remove other less appetizing parts.
- Cooking fruits and vegetables reduces their nutritional value by destroying 20 to 50% of vitamins, all of the enzymes, some amino acids, and many of the minerals. (wellness.ma)
Skipping your leafy green vegetables, fish or fresh fruits might not seem like a big deal, but it is. Everything you are able to do—walk, talk, think, laugh, even breath is made possible by nutrients. Sure there are systems, organs and cells that do the work, but it's all made possible by the regular infusion of nutrients.
In some ways, your body is like an automobile—intricate systems, delicate parts, and periodic inspections—relying on fuel to operate. Like your automobile, your body's performance suffers when you let the fuel run low or run out entirely. You can spend all day tuning the engine or waxing the exterior, but if you don't replenish the fuel or maintain healthy fluid levels (water, oil, etc) your car won't get far.
